Greenville - Ruth H. KANGAS, 86, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at Metron of Greenville. She was born May 25, 1913, in Ionia, the daughter of Clarence J. and Lena L. MANCHESTER SALISBURY. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold KANGAS, on Nov. 20, 1973. No funeral services or visitation will be held. Burial will be in Mona View Cemetery, Muskegon Heights. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruth's name to the Flat River Community Library. Envelopes are available at Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville, where arrangements were held.

KARR, LOTTIE (THORNTON) aka Charlotte E

Greenville Independent, Greenville, MI, June 7, 1916
Lottie E. Thorntan, born in Iowa state in 1863(death record says 1867 and Find a Grave has1868), later moved to Canada and then lived near Greenville, Michigan for the last 35 years. On September 5, 1885 she was married to Frank Lincoln Karr, they living together for 31 years. On May 20, 1916, she went to Flint to visit her daughter, Mrs. Will Higgins. While there she was taken very sick with erysipelas, being unconscious until her death Friday, June 2, 1916. She was one of five children, her mother still living in Vancouver, BC. She leaves three children, Mrs. Zelma Higgins of Flint, Mrs. Ray Main (Mabel Maude) of Lansing and Lillian Mae Karr and a dear husband and host of friends and relatives to mourn her loss.

Funeral services took place Monday, June 5, at the home of her brother, Edward Thornton. Deceased was laid at rest in Forest Home Cemetery.

Lakeland, Fla. - William J. "Bill" KENNEDY, 51, of Lakeland, Fla., died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was born in Springfield, Ohio, Feb. 21, 1948, the son of William H. and Dorothy KENNEDY. Bill married Christine HANNA on June 12, 1986, in Georgia. They have two children, Charles, 12, and Dorothy, 10. The KENNEDY family lived at Lincoln Lake in Gowen for three years, 1993-1996, then returned to Lakeland where Bill was employed as a mechanic for Robin Road Repair. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1949. He is survived by his wife, Christine (Hanna) KENNEDY of Lakeland, Fla.; Charles and Dorothy at home; Anthony, Adam and Amanda KENNEDY of Minnesota; William R. KENNEDY of Polk City, Fla.; his father and stepmother, William H. and Viola M. KENNEDY of Cincinnati, Ohio. Private services were held. Condolences may be sent to Christine, Charles and Dorothy Kennedy, 2740 French Ave., Lakeland, Fla. 33801.

Edmore - Gale J. KENT, 77, of Edmore, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at his home. He was born Jan. 17, 1922, in Six Lakes, to Alfred and Bessie LAKE HUNT. He was employed for 22 years at Frigidaire, retiring in 1985. He served in the U.S. Army for three years, in the Pacific Theater, and was a member of the VFW Kelsey Wiley Post 2292. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen BROWN. He is survived by his wife, Vivian M. LARSEN KENT, whom he married Dec. 24, 1945 in McBride; one daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Larry CARRICK of Lapeer; one son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Rose KENT of Edmore; four grandchildren, Scott and Paula CARRICK, Chris CARRICK, Amy BRAMAN, Aaron and Deana KENT; and four great-grandchildren, Conner, Jordan, Makalia and Morgan. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Stebbins-McCullough Chapel, Edmore, with the Rev. Rolla Timmons officiating. Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Greenville - Vern D. KENT, 64, of Sidney, passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at Metron of Belding. He was born Nov. 19, 1934, in Horr, the son of James H. and Marie H. COX KENT. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 324 for almost 37 years. He was a former brick layer and heavy equipment operator. He is survived by his wife, Kay; his daughters and sons-in-law, Linda KENT of Greenville, Sandra and David ZIMMERMAN of Grand Haven, Janet and Carl Jr. HOLLISTER of Sheridan, Janice and Michael SHEPARD of Greenville, Julie KENT of Sidney; his sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Julie KENT of Fenwick, Ronald KENT of Stanton, Duane and Tracy KENT of Belding; his stepdaughter, Vickie THOMPSON of Kent, Wash.; his stepson, Robert W. SLAYTON Jr. of Sidney; 22 grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Diane KENT of East Troy, Wis.; his sister and brother-in-law, Verna and Edward KIPP of Clio; a special nephew like a son, Bruce KENT of Baldwin; other nieces and nephews; and a special friend like a brother, Richard "Dick" GRIMM of Greenville. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Virgil KENT. A memorial service will be held at a later date. No visitation will be held. Belding - Lorena "Tootie" KEY, 47, 10472 Morgan Mills NE, Greenville, passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999. She was born on Nov. 5, 1952, in Greenville, to Frank L. and Ellen M. NICHOLS KEY. She graduated from Belding High School in 1970. She worked as a waitress at Sam's Joint, Caledonia. She was preceded in death by her parents; a half brother, Frank KEY, this year. She is survived by three half brothers and their spouses, Richard and Sharon KEY of Fresno, Calif., Walter and Jo KEY of Paradise, Claif., Charles and Debbie KEY of Honolulu; dear friend, Carla LUSCOMBE of Belding; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Ellen HAWLEY of Belding, Patricia and Sid WOOLLETT of Spokane, Wash.; a half sister and her spouse, Eva and Clarence HOWARD of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Thomas KEY of Belding; and nephews, Andy, Brett and Tony HAWLEY, all of Belding. The memorial service is 8 p.m. Monday at Huffman Funeral Home, Belding, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Visitation is 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Edmore - E. Genevieve KIME, 90, Edmore, passed away Sunday evening, April 18, 1999, at Gratiot Community Hospital, Alma. She was born Feb. 26, 1909, in Edmore, to Elmer and Hazel SCHAFFER BLOUGH. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lance; one daughter, Deanna HOCKSTRA; one grandson, Stephen HOCKSTRA; one brother, Phillip BLOUGH; and one son-in-law, Kenneth DYER. Mrs. KIME is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Kathryn DYER of Edmore, Janice and Harold VOGEL of Conklin; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth LUM of Washington, D.C. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Stebbins-McCullough Chapel, Edmore. Interment will be in Vinewood Cemetery, Edmore. Friends may call today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the chapel.

Edmore - Wanda Ann KING, 67, Blanchard, passed away Friday, March 5, 1999, after an extended illness. She was born Dec. 11, 1931, in Mecosta County, to Cecil and Hazel HARDENBURGH JONES. She was a lifelong resident of the area, a member of the Trinity Wesleyan Church in Remus and past board member, and also served as secretary and treasurer of Sunday school. She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil JONES, and a sister, Joyce STEVENS. She is survived by her husband, Merton KING, whom she married Oct. 11, 1952, in Edmore; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Steven JACKSON of Muskegon; a son, James KING of Blanchard; her mother, Hazel JONES of Sylvester; three sisters, Cecil and Frank MAYHEW, Lila and Julian TUSCANO, Carlene JONES, all of Grand Rapids; three grandchildren, Stephanie, Tracey and Patrick JACKSON. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Wesleyan Church, Remus. Memorials may be made to Central Michigan Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Belding - John S. KITTREDGE, 80, Lowell, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at Spectrum Health East Campus. He was born May 29, 1918, in Chicago, to Raymond and Mary Alice SHEPHERD KITTREDGE. He was owner/operator of Lake Marine Distributing in Holland and Douglas for 25 years, retiring in 1980. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was a member of the Saugatuck Masonic Blue Lodge and the Saladin Shrine Temple where he was a past potentate and a York-Rite. He played Santa for many years at the Belding Covered Village Mall. He was married May 19, 1982, in Grand Rapids, to Bonnie GAGE. She survives with two daughters and one son-in-law, Judy OVERWAY of Saugatuck, Kim and Chuck MANNION of Holland; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Greg and Angie MARTINEZ, Steve MARTINEZ, all of Lowell; six grandchildren, Kaylie, Emily and Jake MARTINEZ, Connor, Ian and Andrea MANNION; and one sister, Mary Alice MOTE of Saratoga, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, Belding, with the Rev. Robert Lignell officiating. Memorials may be made to the Shriner Hospital for Crippled Children.

Crystal - Donald KLEES, 87, Crystal, died Monday, May 10, 1999, at Schnepp Health Care Center, St. Louis. He was born Dec. 18, 1911, near Crystal, to Peter and Innis LANG KLEES. He was a lifelong area farmer and handyman. He played music for the Grange and was known for making the instruments he played. He is survived by close frineds and neighbors, Arland and Ruby CARTER and family and several cousins. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home, Crystal, with the Rev. Ried Martin officiating. Interment will be in Ferris Center Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Ferris Township treasurer.

Howard City - Harold Junior KLUNDER, 65, of Howard City, passed away Sunday, July 18, 1999, at his residence. He was born Oct 5, 1933, in Grand Rapids, the son of Harold Edward and Ruby Elizabeth MARSH KLUNDER. During his working years he was employed at General Motors as a tool and die maker for 32 years. During the Korean Conflict he served with the U.S.Army, and he was a member of the Howard City VFW Post 3306. Jr. loved his family and was always there to lend a helping hand. In 1961 he married Bonnie PELTON, who survives. Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Beth KLUNDER of Howard City; one daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Clarence GOODIN of Sparta; six grandchildren, Jonathan, Tiffany, Shawn, Cody, Christina and Jennifer; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Ethelda KLUNDER of Six Lakes, Edwin and Janeta KLUNDER of Big Rapids; one sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Ron SMITH of Freeport; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sandra Mae. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Germain-Mohnke Funeral Home, Howard City, with Pastors Mark Mitchell and Ben Lester officiating. Burial will be in the Pierson Cemetery. Howard City - Ila Mae KNAPP, 82, of Trufant, was received into the loving arms of her Lord Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at Metron of Cedar Springs. She was born Dec. 17, 1916, in Sand Lake, the daughter of Claude and Marion PHILLIPS WILSON. Ila was active in the McKinleys Ladies Aide, Sand Lake Garden Club and also Cedar Springs Free Methodist Church. Ila gave a special joy to everyone who knew her. Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Karl and Sharon of Pierson, Claude of Howard City;one daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Tim CRIBLEY of Hudsonville; one son-in-law, James DUMBECK of Lowell; eight grandchildren, David and Kim KNAPP, Daniel and Andrea KNAPP, Mark DUMBECK, Marchelle and Chris PAGE, Alex, Byron, Katrina and Carolynn CRIBLEY; five great-grandchildren, Stacey and Kenneth KNAPP, Kayleigh, Brennan and Brooke PAGE; one brother-in-law, Arnold KRANTZ of Morley; one sister-in-law, Lola CARLSON of Rockford; many friends with a very special friend Beatrice ALBRECHT; several nieces and nephews. Belding - Norman L. KNAPP Sr., 84, of Belding, slipped peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 14, 1999, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 12, 1914, in Belding, the son of Charles and Ceyneth WILSON KNAPP. He graduated with the Class of 1933 from Belding High School. He was a member of Green Corners Baptist Church for more than 40 years. On Nov. 15, 1939, he married Elaine ROGERS in Lansing. She survives, along with their children and their spouses, Marye Anne and Charles KRAMER of Cedar Springs, Alicia and Bill FEEHAN, Norman L. Jr. and Susan KNAPP, all of Belding; his grandchildren, Steve, Leigh Anne, Timothy, Christine, Heather, Elizabeth, Bill, Angie, Nikki, Rachelle, Marie, Peggy and Rick; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Evelyn KNAPP of Lansing, N.C. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Ceyneth KIEL, on Aug. 19, 1969; his parents; one brother, Stanley KNAPP; and one sister, Mary KNAPP RITTERSDORF. Edmore - Mickie KNOWLES, of Vestaburg, passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mount Pleasant. She was born in Richland Township to Randall and Ruth WILSON HARRELL. She was retired from Hitachi and General Electric after more than 30 years of service and was a member of the United Auto Workers. She was also a member of the Vestaburg Church of Christ and a member of the Gratiot-Montcalm Area Hospice. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Linda KNOWLES of Kenai, Alaska; two granddaughters, Heidi KNOWLES of Alaska, Alivia KNOWLES of Oregon; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Carolyn HARRELL of Vestaburg, Max and Leona HARRELL of Riverdale; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosemary and Joe TAYLOR of Florida, Sonya and Ralph SHERMAN of Vestaburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald KNOWLES; a sister, Marcelene ROSE; and a brother, Victor HARRELL. Services for Mrs. KNOWLES are 11 a.m. Monday at the Stebbins-McCullough Funeral Chapel, Edmore. Interment will follow at Richland Township Cemetery in Vestaburg. Greenville - J. Wesley KRAFT, 96, of Greenville, passed away Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999, at his home. He was born June 7, 1903, in Coral, the son of Jacob and Mary EHLERT KRAFT. He was a lifetime member of the Danish Brotherhood Society, and years ago he worked at Sage's Meat Processing. He was a farmer and one of the original members of the 4-H Fair. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susy and Dick SCHENDEN of Boyne City; his three sons and daughters-in-law, Hubert and Ruth of Greenville, Richard and Joan of Trufant, Bob and Martha of Greenville; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dagmer L. KRAFT on April 15, 1994; his brothers, Ben and Dave; his sisters, Grace, Carrie, Blanche and Florence. Funeral and committal services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville, with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating. Burial will be in the East Montcalm Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Montcalm 4-H Fair Association.

KREFT, KATHRYN M.

Barryton - Kathryn M. KREFT, 46, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999. She was born Oct. 29, 1952, in Sheridan, and graduated from Carson City High School in 1970. She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant. Kathryn married Richard KREFT on Dec. 30, 1972. They made their home in both Six Lakes and more recently Chippewa Lake. She was an elementary classroom teacher at Montabella Community Schools since 1975. Kathryn was an active member of the Barryton Free Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and Bible Quiz coach. Because of her faith in God, the church played a major role in every aspect of Kathryn's life. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard; one daughter, Marcie KREFT, a student at Cornerstone College, Grand Rapids; parents, Howard "Mike" and Doris RYAN of Carson City; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Linda RYAN of Carson City; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane and Greg MC CRACKEN of Carson City, Jeanne and Larry REYNOLDS, Lori and Steve GIERHAN, all of Lexington, Neb.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edgar and Shirley KREFT of Rogers City; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one infant brother, Danny. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Barryton Free Methodist Church with visitation at the church today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Burial is in Carson City Cemetery. Greenville - Mary F. KROIS, 84, of Greenville, formerly of the Belding, Fremont, Muskegon and White Cloud areas, passed away Sunday, May 23, 1999, at United Memorial Hospital, Greenville. She was born July 10, 1914, in Walkerville. Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Charlie CHATMAN of Rockford; her grandchildren and spouses, Deb and Dave BRECHTING of Marne, Dan and Sandra CHATMAN of West Olive, Greg and Deb CHATMAN of Coopersville, Susan CHATMAN of Standale, Scott and Michele CHATMAN of Allendale; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Virginia and Robert METZGER of Wyoming, and Marie STRAIT of Holland. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond M. KROIS, on Sept.16, 1998. There will be no visitation or funeral service. Carson City - Jeffrey Ronald KROUSE, 20, of Matherton, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999. He was born Aug. 25, 1979, in Carson City, to Ronald and Kathi SETCHFIELD KROUSE. He was a member of the American Tae Kwon Do Association. He was a third-degree black belt and in 1987 was second at the World Championships. He also taught Tae Kwon Do and especially enjoyed working with the children. He enjoyed snowmobiling and bow hunting for deer. He is survived by his parents, Ronald and Kathi KROUSE of Matherton; one sister, Stacy KROUSE of Grand Rapids; grandparents, Larry and Shirley KROUSE of Hubbardston, Beryl and Ida Belle SETCHFIELD of Grand Rapids; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home, Carson City, with the Rev. Ried Martin officiating. Interment will be in East Plains Cemetery, Matherton. Sheridan - George C. KRUM, 75, 632 W. Main St., Stanton, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at his home. He was born Jan. 13, 1924, in Stanton, the son of Morris and Mary MOSIER KRUM. He is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Juna and Donald HERBISON of Stanton, Jessie and Chester MAIN of Greenville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Merle and Cleo KRUM, Earl and Ruth KRUM, both of Stanton; one brother-in-law, Don and Carol CESAR of Stanton; one sister-in-law, Iris and Bob MAYER of Florida; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tressa "Joyce" KRUM on March 11, 1982; one sister, Frieda CESAR in 1973; two brothers, Keith KRUM in 1982, Max KRUM in 1994. Mr. KRUM has been a lifetime resident of the Stanton area. He was a veteran of Warld War II with the U.S. Army and a member of the VFW Post 5065 of Sheridan. There will be one visitation. In accordance with Mr. KRUM's wishes, crematon has already taken place. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Sunday at the Stebbins & Simpson Funeral Home, Sheridan, with the Rev. Rolla Timmons officiating. Final interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Sheridan - Merle E. KRUM, 80, 4295 E. Stanton Road, Stanton, passed away Saturday, March 20, 1999, at his home. He was born July 12, 1918, in Stanton, the son of Morris and Mary MOSIER KRUM. He married Cleo N. MANGUS on Sept. 7, 1938, in Indiana. Mr. KRUM was a longtime resident of the Stanton area and a life member of Central Michigan Sportsman Club. He is survived by his wife, Cleo N. KRUM; four sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Donna KRUM of Morley, Larry and Diana KRUM of Stanton, Terry and Carol KRUM of Mount Clemens, Richard and Bonnie KRUM of Capac; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Juna and Donald HERBISON of Stanton, Jessie and Chester MAIN of Greenville; one brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Ruth KRUM of Stanton. He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Stebbins & Simpson Funeral Home, Sheridan, with the Rev. Rolla Timons officiating. Interment will be in McBride Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggest memorial considerations to Hospice Care.

KRYWY, WALTER

Greenville - Walter KRYWY, 78, Keiber N.E., Greenville, passed away Saturday, May 8, 1999, at his home. He was born Jan. 17, 1921, in Detroit, to Nicholas and Anna KRYWY. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Flying Tiger in World War II, and continued as a pilot through the Korean War. He married Eva C. SAMUEL in Detroit on Oct. 11, 1947. After retiring as a commercial pilot, the couple enjoyed their life in the Greenville area. He was a member of VFW Cleveland-Wolverton Post 3794, Greenville, 14th Air Force Association and Air Line Pilots Association. He was preceded in death by one brother, John; and one sister, Stephanie RICHARDSON. Mr. KRYWY is survived by his wife of 51 years, Eva; one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen W. and Deborah KRYWY of Westland; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Paul GRUBB of Grapevine, Texas; four grandsons, Steve and Nicholas KRYWY of Westland, J.P. and Derick GRUBB of Grapevine, Texas; three sisters, Mary BELLFOY of Centerline, Jennie SPOUTZ of Mount Clemens, Helen BELTZ of St. Helen; one brother-in-law, Harold and Helen SAMUEL of Reed City. Funeral services will be Thursday at noon at the Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. Mark R. Pflug officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Visitation at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 8 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.
