Greenville - Arthur W. CAIN, 84, of Greenville, died Thursday, July 22, 1999, at United Memorial Hospital. He was born on Sept. 1, 1914, in Imlay City, the son of Wilber and Nela HASKINS CAIN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther STARKS CAIN, in 1981; his sisters, Jane DORR and Karlene CALHOUN; and his son-in-law, Robert N. RIGGS, in 1996. Surviving are his children, Michael and Kim CAIN of Rockford, Butch and Linda CAIN of Belmont, Joann and Donald CROOKS of Edmore, David and Loretta EASTMAN of California, Billy and Helen EASTMAN of Millington; 23 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Katherine DOLBEE of Lansing; his brother, Harry CAIN; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. Harry R. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Ferris Center Cemetery, Vestaburg. Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Catholic Services Appeal Campaign.

Daily News, Greenville, MI - Thursday, July 15, 1999
Royal Oak - Lois G. Cameron, 82, formerly of Lakeview, Farmington Hills and Pleasant Ridge, died Monday, July 12, 1999, at the Bloomfield Hills Care Center, Bloomfield Township. She was born March 5, 1917, in Detroit. Her husband Charles, whom she married Dec. 7, 1946, in Detroit, died Feb. 13, 1993. Mrs. Cameron was a medical assistant, formerly employed at Kelsey Memorial Hospital. She is survived by three children and their spouses, Charles and Terri CAMERON of Rochester, Warren D. and Piper CAMERON of Leonard and Reid W. CAMERON of Bothell, Wash.; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Kinsey-Garrett Funeral Home, 420 S. Lafayette, Royal Oak. Burial will be in the White Chapel Cemetery. Visitatiion will be Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Edmore - Cecil Alden CAMP, 84, of Stanton, died at his home Tuesday, May 25, 1999, five days short of his 85th birthday. He was born on May 30, 1914, in Edmore, the son of Charles and Nelsena CAMP. Until his retirement, he was a lifelong resident of Edmore where he farmed and was a former Edmore mayor. He retired from Swetnam Pipeline Co. of Bryon, Ohio. He was presented the Bronze Star in World War II, where he served in Sicily, Italy, France and North Africa. He married Helen HACKETT on Sept 1, 1945. She survives along with one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sheila CAMP of Edmore; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John COTTRELL of Stanton; two grandchildren, Casey CAMP of Royal Oak, Heather CAMP of Miami, Fla.; two brothers, Ken CAMP of Six Lakes, Keith CAMP of Vestaburg; one sister-in-law, Ruth CAMP of Bryon, Ohio. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred BOYD of Edmore, Catherine CONRAD of Blanchard, Ruth HADDER of Six Lakes; and one brother, Alvin CAMP of Bryon, Ohio. At Cecil's request, there will be no memorial service. Any remembrances may be made to Hospice of American Cancer Society. Arrangements were by Stebbins-McCullough Chapel, Edmore.

Edmore - Helen HACKETT CAMP, 84, of Stanton, formerly of Edmore, passed away Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at Metron of Greenville. She was born April 7, 1915, in Cleveland, Ohio, the only child of Milo and Lillian ACKERMAN HACKETT. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Edmore Women's Club and was a Sunday School teacher and Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. Helen worked as a secretary at Edmore Schools, and bookkeeper at Tri-County Community Hospital and Don Holler's Kent County Pickle Plant. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 53 years, Cecil, in May of this year. Mrs. Camp is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John COTTRELL of Stanton; one son and daughter-in law, Larry and Sheila CAMP of Edmore; one grandson, Casey CAMP of Royal Oak; one granddaughter, Heather CAMP of Miami, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Ken CAMP of Six Lakes, Keith CAMP of Vestaburg; and one sister-in-law, Ruth CAMP of Bryan, Ohio. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Stebbins-McCullough Funeral Chapel, Edmore. Interment will be in Vinewood Cemetery, Edmore. Friends may call today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Michigan.

Sheridan - David J. CAMPBELL, 52, of Denver, Colo., died Monday, Oct 4, 1999, at Briarwood Nursing Home, Denver, Colo. He was born March 8, 1947, in Edmore, the son of John and Virginia ROBERTS CAMPBELL. Mr. CAMPBELL was a resident of Denver, Colo., since 1993, formerly of Stanton and Grand Rapids. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and of St. Bernadette of Lourdes Church, Stanton. He is survived by a special friend, Nancy M. CAMPBELL of Stanton; one daughter, Kristina CAMPBELL of Stanton; two sons, Douglas CAMPBELL and Derek CAMPBELL, both of Stanton; two granddaughters, Aubree May HARP and Morgan Jo CAMPBELL; one sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Gordon VAN BOVEN of Grandville. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carol Ann CAMPBELL. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Stebbins and Simpson Funeral Home, Sheridan, with the Rev. Vincent Bryce officiating. In accordance with Mr. Campbell's wishes, crematiion has taken place. No visitation will be held.

Greenville - Roderick Russell CAMPBELL, 62, Greenville, passed away Sunday, March 14, 1999. He was born Aug. 31, 1936. Rod's gentle ways and wonderful life continue to be celebrated by his mother, Ethel CAMPBELL of Caledonia; wife, Dorothy, whom he married June 7, 1958; daughters, Ellen CAMPBELL and Missy HAMMER; son Bert HAMMER; granddaughter, Randi HAMMER; grandsons, Cody HAMMER and Austin HAMMER; many brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins; "adopted mother", Helen PYNE of Rockford; adopted daughter, Brenda THOMPSON of Greenville; and adopted daughter and son, Dennise and Don ROESLY of Greenville. Rod was an Ameritech retiree with more than 30 years of service. He was a member of CWA, Ameritech Pioneers, and was a former Boy Scout leader. Rod's wish is to be "remembered with love, but not mourned." Funeral services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with Pastor Raymond Bardowell officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Mills Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Donations in Rod's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Michigan, Big Rapids.

She was born Feb. 8, 1932, in Detroit, the daughter of Alexander J. and Sarah MANFORD CAMPBELL. She is survived by two sisters, Una GALSTER of Sterling Heights, and Joan ROSS of Nixa, MO. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the grand Lawn Cemetery in Detroit. Arrangements were handled by Johnson Funeral Home, Belding.

She is survived by her two daughters, Phyllis PASCH of White Cloud and Janice HUCKLEBERRY of Gowen; her 16 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert Ray KIMBALL, in 1978; her second husband, Milo CARR, in 1981; grandson, Fred PASCH, in 1991; great-grandson, James HUFF, in 1986; her sons-in-law, Donald PASCH in 1997 and Robert HUCKLEBERRY in 1998; her two brothers, Fred and Lloyd; and one sister, Lorena. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville, with Pastor R. Mark Shaw, of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in McBride Cemetery. Greenville - James CARR, 78, of Big Rapids, formerly of Fort Myers, Fla., passed away late Wednesday morning, Dec. 8, 1999, at Altercare Nursing Center, Big Rapids. The son of James and Hazel ANDERSON CARR, he was born June 7, 1921, in Central City, KY. An attorney, Mr. CARR was a retired administrative law judge for the state of Michigan and was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps. He is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy WALERYCH. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Brown-Teman Funeral Home, Greenville, is handling arrangements.

Lakeview - Helen F. CARRICK, 77, of Lakeview, passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 31, 1999, at her home. Mrs. CARRICK was born Oct. 31, 1921, in Lakeview, the daughter of Albert and Hattie SCHWANDT. Mrs. CARRICK retired from Kelsey Memorial Hospital with more than 20 years of service. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Robert CARRICK; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Edward MC GRAW of Lafayette, Ind., Connie and Richard DENTON of Greenville; two sons and daughter-in-law, Larry R. and Christine CARRICK of Lapeer, Randy CARRICK of Grand Rapids; three brothers, Pete SCHWANDT, Jim SCHWANDT, Ray SCHWANDT, all of Lakeview; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William SCHWANDT. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lakeview, with Pastor Larry Sheppard officiating. Holt - Charles E. CARROLL, 74, of Holt, formerly of the Shepherd, Ashley and Greenville area, passed away Thursday, May 20, 1999, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. He was born June 14, 1924, in Isabella County, the son of John and Minnie SHERMAN CARROLL. Charles married the former Margaret J. SENSABAUGH on July 29, 1950. He was a full-time minister of Jehovah's Witnesses, graduated from Shepherd High School, and was a gas and fuel distributor for 20 years for Texaco and a truck dispatcher for 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his son and daughter-in-law, Charles O. and Barbara CARROLL of Toney, Ala.; his daughters and sons-in-law, Libby and John LA FOND of Greenville, Kathleen and Daniel HOUGHTON of Kentucky, Susan and John HOUGHTON of Remus, Sally CARROLL of Kentucky; his grandchildren, Chris CARROLL, Rory CARROLL, Jonathan and Lesa LA FOND, Sonya and Bruce WILSON, Tracy LA FOND, Heather LA FOND, Callie HOUGHTON; three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Shelby, Joshua; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lloyd CARROLL of Florida, Leo CARROLL of Sheridan, Michael and Marj CARROLL of Edmore, Robert and Paula CARROLL of Scituate, Mass.; his sisters and brother-in-law, Jeanette MC GILL of Lansing, Bernice and John KNOWLTON of Yuma, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews. Morning Sun, Alma, MI - Thursday, May 20, 1999
Phyllis H. CASE, age 74, passed away May 18, 1999, at the home of her daughter, Naomi; the wonderful Hospice Organization was there for her and her family during the illness. She was born December 16, 1924, to Arlie and Genevieve BOISE (HILL) in St. Louis, Mich. She was a very kind and loving wife, mother and friend. She retired from Evart Products in 1987. She and her husband, Ted, loved to travel and had visited every state in the U.S. except Hawaii. They had a winter home in Silver Springs, Fla. They were also members of several RV resorts where they made many friends. Spring and summer months were spent at their country home in Remus. She loved her flower gardens and he enjoyed his vegetable garden, which they shared with everyone. The wildlife around their home was a speial joy to them also. Most weekends were spent enjoying campfires, cookouts, and swimming in the pond with their family and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Burgess Edward, and her husband, Ted. Surviving are two sons, Terrance CASE and Kepp CASE both of Barryton; four daughters, Naomi CASE of Lansing, Tiffany NIERGARTH of Mt. Pleasant, Tonya CASE of Remus, and Deanna BRADEN of Silver Springs, Fla.; four sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Burt DILLARD (Mary Ann) of Arizona, Mr. and Mrs. Dewitt WHITE (Ome) of Lansing, Mrs. Yvonne KEISER of St. Louis, Mr. and Mrs. Ray MULDER (Jo-An) also of St. Louis, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Memorial contributiions may be made to Ingham Hospice in Lansing. Visitation will be at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton from 6 to 8 p.m. on May 20 and also one hour before the funeral service on Friday, May 21 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark D. Case officiating. A luncheon will be served by the Rebeccas at the Barryton Community Building following the graveside service at Flake Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 2, 1907, in Lomza, Poland, the daughter of Eliasz and Marjanna LUTRYZKOWSKA ORLOWSKI. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Howard City. She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gerald and Silvia CEDERQUIST of Greeley, Colo., Robert CEDERQUIST of Howard City; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Maynard; and one brother, John. Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, Howard City, with the Rev. Phong Pham as celebrant. Burial will be in Pierson Cemetery. Memorials to Christ the King Catholic Church may be left at the Germain-Mohnke Funeral Home, Howard City, where friends may call today from 2 to 4 and at the church from 7 to 9 p.m. and prior to services on Friday. A wake service will be held today at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Greenville - Carl A. Cesar, 33, Greenville, passed away Sunday, April 25, 1999. He was born Dec. 22, 1965, in Greenville He was employed at Wendy's in Greenville. He is survived by his mother, Reva CESAR of Greenville; his father and stepmother, Max and Elsie CESAR of Greenville; his sisters and brothers, Angie CESAR, Max CESAR Jr., Donald GILLMER, Belinda MILIAN, Darlene HOPKINS, Betty LAMPANI, Judy WILCOX, Patsy RABY and Mary CESAR; Carl's newphew, Brandon CESAR of Stanton; his cousin Denise PHOENIX and family. He was preceded in death by one brother, William M. CESAR, on July 2, 1982. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. Jr. Avery officiating. Burteen A. CHANEY was born Sept. 2, 1906 in Shepherd to Edward and Myrtle PARSONS ETTINGER. She married Victor CHANEY April 14, 1926 in Clare and he preceded her in death in 1972. She enjoyed gardening. She lived in the Coe Township area for many years and after her husband's death she moved to Alma. She is survived by four daughters, Dorothy NORTHRUP of Midland, Mildred (Don) LEONARD of St. Louis, Virginia (Edwin) FRISBIE of Alma and Lois (Milo) FRISBIE of Mesa, Ariz., 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor; son, Francis (Bud) CHANEY; an infant daughter, Marjorie; and two brothers and three sisters. Memorials may be given to the Commission on Aging.

He was born March 9, 1930, in Day Township, Montcalm County, the son of Dorwin H. and Zelma E. SWITZER CHAPIN. Mr. CHAPIN had been a lifelong resident of the Stanton area and he was presently attending the Cleo Center in Alma. He is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille and Ron GIBSON, Maxine and Ray HARRIS, all of Stanton; one brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Sally CHAPIN of Middleton; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold CHAPIN, in 1946; his father, Dorwin, on Aug. 27, 1992; and his mother, Zelma, on Feb. 6, 1996. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Stebbins and Simpson Funeral Home, Stanton, with the Rev. Norman Wood officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Stanton. Belding - Herbert "Chick" CHICKERING, 67, of Belding, passed away Friday, May 21, 1999, at Ionia County Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 4, 1932, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Herbert E. and Helen MC GOUGH CHICKERING. He graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1951. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean conflict. He served for five years as commander of Belding's Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4406 and the Ionia County Council of VFW. He was employed for 25 years at Belco Industries as installation supervisor, retiring in 1984. He married Doris SOWER on July 24, 1992 in Belding. Doris survives him. He also is survived by their children, Kathijoe and Terry FOSTER of Chase, Lucinda and Victor YOUMANS, Herbert K. CHICKERING Jr., Liane PALMATEER, Kristen MATHEWSON, all of Belding, Scott and Laura PALMATEER of Fenwick; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Cecelia and Gene TREBIAN of Orleans, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Mary Lou CHICKERING of Belding, and Thomas and Marilyn CHICKERING of Greenville. She was born in Greenville on Dec. 29, 1917, the daughter of Alvin and Iva PALMER SHARPE. She married Claude M. CHITTICK on Feb. 7, 1943. Surviving are her husband of 56 years, C.M. CHITTICK of Spring Lake; their son and daughter-in-law, Charles and JoAnn CHITTICK of Cascade; two grandsons, Michael C. CHITTICK and Christopher CHITTICK; her sister, Genevieve MOORE of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Earl P. "Bud" SHARPE on Feb. 15, 1986, and Howard J. SHARPE on Aug. 4, 1993. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. Harry R. Johnson, pastor of Greenville First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

CHURCH, CHARLES J.

Charles J. Church was born in Brockport, NY, March 12, 1833, amd moved with his parents to Marshall, MI, where his father died when he was eleven years of age. At the age of thirteen he entered the employ of a Mr. Godfroy, a merchant and Indian trader in Grand Rapids, MI, going to Detroit at the age of seventeen to accept a position with a French merchant trader. After a few months however, he accepted a position in the Ives bank in Detroit, remaining with that concern ten years.

November 19, 1860, Mr. Church married Mary E. S. Ellsworth and, coming to Greenville in March, 1861, he started the first bank in Montcalm county and was actively engaged in the banking business here until the spring f 1897, with the exception of a few months in 1871 and 1872.

He was essentially a self-made man. Thoroughly schooled in business experience he prided himself upon his prompt and decisive action in all transactions and expected the same from others. Though exacting from those in his employ, he was fully appreciateive of good service well rendered. For many years he was closely identified with every movement of public interest in our community and was a very important factor in the development of this city and the surrounding country.

Since 1897, Mr. Church has given his attention mainly to arranging his affairs for the time when they would no longer be under his care and management, while his first condideration has be, as always, for his family, of which he is survived by Mrs. Mary E. S. Church, his wife of nearly forty-six years; his daughters, Mrs. Gevevieve Moulton of Los Angeles, CA, Mrs. Julia E. Phelps of Cedar Rapids, IA, Mrs. Suzette W. Munton of Milwaukee, WI; and his grandchildren, Julia E., Charles Jesse and Mary Church, children of a deceased son, Charles A. Church.

Mr. Church was long a member of the Masonic fraternity, a charter member of the Knights of Pythias and A. O. U. W. lodges and a member of the Pioneer society.

READING-Anne P. Christensen, 85, a former 30-year-resident of Tuscon, Ariz., died Friday, Jan. 21, 1994 at the Evergreen Manor in Montpelier, Ohio. She was born Nov. 10, 1908, in Greenville, the daughter of Frederick and Mena Ericksen Christensen. She had resided in Montpelier for the past seven years. For many years she was employed at the Gibson Refrigerator Co., Greenville, and also by the Railroad Retirement Board in Tuscon. She is suvived by one brother, Carl Christensen, Montgomery. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at a later date in Montcalm Cemetery, Greenville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, Hospice, of the charity of one's choice.

GREENVILLE-Richard A. Clark, 33, Greenville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 12, 1994. He was born May 3, 1960, in Milwaukee, Wis. He is survived by his mother and stepdad, Wilma and Jim Gunderman, of Harrison; his father, Sylvin Clark, Duluth, Minn.; his grandmother, Demerese Weger, of Gladstone; two daughters, Nicole and Michael Clark, Greenville; two sons, Richard Jr. and Justin, Ionia; three sisters, Theresa Sanders, Gowen, Mary Saur, Stanton, and Sandy Staleo, Rockford: and by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville, with Pastor Garnet McGilviray of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Free Bed Hospital Brain Injury Program.

CLEAVELAND, DARWIN

Darwin Cleaveland of Fairplain, aged 85, at the home of his son, Frank Cleaveland, Nov. 5. In 1860 he with his family moved to Sheridan and built the first house erected there. He had a cheerful, kind disposition and was always ready to deny himself to do good unto others. He leaves six children to mourn his loss.

Conrad Christensen, 63, of Trufant Michigan, died in St. Mary's Hospital Wednesday night after a short illness.  Mr. Christensen had been active in fraternal and agricultural circles in Montcalm County and was a lifelong resident of that section.  He was a member of Masonic Lodge, No. 500 Odd Fellows, and the Danish Brotherhood.  Burial is to be at Trufant.  He leaves his widow, six daughters and four sons.

Greenville - Eldon N. CHRISTENSEN, 68, of South Fitzner Road, Montcalm Township, passed away Sunday evening, Sept. 26, 1999, at United Memorial Hospital, Greenville. The son of William and Mildred MOUNT CHRISTENSEN, he was born April 21, 1931, at home in Montcalm Township. On May 7, 1955, in Montcalm Township, he married the former Lois Ann SMITH, who preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 1982. He also was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Zendall Wayne COOPER Jr., on March 12, 1997. After serving with the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict, Eldon returned to his Maple Grove Farm where he farmed and worked at H.A. Curtis and Sons in Turk Lake. For more than 40 years, he served on the Montcalm Township Volunteer Fire Department and was active on the Montcalm Township Board of Trustees for more than 30 years, including several terms as supervisor. He also served on the Montcalm County 4-H Fair board of directors and was active with the Farmers Market in Greenville. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Deb and John BAKER, Donna and Wayne COOPER; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bill and Becky CHRISTENSEN, Ed CHRISTENSEN, all of Montcalm Township; one brother and sister-in law, Marvin and Pat CHRISTENSEN of Grand Ledge; seven grandchildren, Jenny BAKER, Jessy Marie BAKER, Brandi COOPER, William Eldon COOPER, Joseph Carl COOPER, Amber S. CHRISTENSEN, Emily Lois CHRISTENSEN; two brothers-in-law, George and Lee SMITH of Florida; Jim and Betty SMITH of Washington; several nieces, nephews, and many cousins. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Brown-Teman Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. Jerry Jones, pastor of First Congregational Church, officiating. Military graveside honors, rendered by the Ray I. Booth American Legiion Post 101 honor guard, will follow at East Montcalm Cemetery. He was born in Greenville, the son of Bertha BISSELL and Myron B. CHRISTENSEN on May 15, 1920. He was a factory worker for Ranney Co., Greenville, until his retirement. He is survived by one son, Michael CHRISTENSEN of Greenville, and a special friend, Jamie CRATER of Greenville; one sister and brother-in-law, Janeta and Edwin KLUNDER of Big Rapids; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, L.T. CHRISTENSEN of Greenville, Floyd and Nadine CHRISTENSEN of Mansfield, Ohio, Dean and Betty CHRISTENSEN of Newaygo; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela CHRISTENSEN. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeview Cemetery, with the Rev. Donald Fry officiating. Greenville - Helena C. CHRISTENSEN, 86, died Monday, May 10, 1999, at United Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. She was born Nov. 14, 1902, in Trufant, to Danish-born parents, Jens Peter and Cammilla HANSEN SORENSEN. She lived in the Trufant area until she moved to Greenville's Friendship House in 1988. In the early 1920's, Helena worked as a telephone operator as "Central", where farmers' neighborhood telephone lines converged in Trufant. After working in Grand Rapids for a short time as a domestic, she married William C. CHRISTENSEN on June 28, 1924, and moved to a farm east of Trufant. Sixty-four years later she moved from the farm to Greenville. After being widowed in 1955, she worked for the next 17 years as a nurse's aide, first for nine years at Grant Hospital and then for shorter periods at Christiansen Nursing Home in rural Trufant, and at Kelsey Hospital in Lakeview. Helena retired at the age of 70 from Christiansen Nursing Home (now Metron of Greenville). She reminisced about the happy times experienced by new parents when she worked in the nursery, and conversely, there were sad times from the suffering of patients who had become close acquaintances during her care-giving. Helena had been a member of Settlement Lutheran Church for more than 70 years. For many of those years, she was active in Lutheran Church Women, choir and a multitude of service activities. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Max and Marilyn CHRISTENSEN of Greenville and Mesa, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Cindy BOES and Jill CLIBURN, both of Gilbert, Ariz; five great-grandchildren, John, Jennifer, Holly, Carolyn and Elizabeth; and one sister-in-law, Mildred FRANDSEN of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Ernest SORENSEN, Leo FRANDSEN, Harvey FRANSDEN, Lawrence FRANSDEN, Emma RICHARDS and Helen FAVEL. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Settlement Lutheran Church, Gowen, with the Rev. Aaron Sorrels officiating. Burial will be in Little Denmark Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Settlement Lutheran Church or United Memorial Long Term Care. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville.

A cook with Greenville Public Schools for 22 years, she was bom Dec. 22, 1913, at Trufant to Niels E. and Christina M. Larsen Christensen. She was a member of the Danish Sisterhood Society. Survivors are a sister, Marion Irish, Grand Rapids; a brother, Jack Christensen. Chicago; a nephew and his wife, Pat and Jane Irish, Grand Rapids; several cousins. Funeral-committal services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville, with interment in East Montcalm Cemetery. Greenville - Joan CHRISTENSEN, 64, of Mason's Island, Mystic, Conn., passed away Wednesday evening, Dec. 1, 1999, at her home. The daughter of Eugene and Lorena DUMAS, she was born on Oct. 16, 1935, in Putnam, Conn. A lifetime resident of Connecticut, she graduated class valedictorian from both St. Joseph Grade School and Tourtellotte Memorial High School in Thompson, Conn., with the class of 1953. She began her career as a surgical technician in 1967 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London, then worked for several years for hospice, and in 1981 began working for Dr. Steven Colsen, D.P.M., as his primary assistant in the Pawcatuck, Conn. office, where she was fondly remembered as "J.C" by her co-workers and patients for 14 years until her retirement. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining, doing arts and crafts, traveling the United States, and various volunteer activities. She was preceded in death by her father; and one son, Marc DUDLEY, in 1998. In 1974, she married Michael CHRISTENSEN, formerly of Greenville, who survives. Also surviving are her mother, Lorena DUMAS of Thompson, Conn.; one daughter, Ronnie BENNETT of Muleshoe, Texas; two sons, Walter DUDLEY of Montebello, Calif., Jonathan DUDLEY of Glendale, Ariz.; two stepchildren, Michael CHRISTENSEN Jr. of Westerly, R.I., Linda JAGER of Rockwood; two sisters, the Rev. Louise DUMAS of East Hartford, Conn., Mary Fazio of Bridgewater, Mass.; one brother, Eugene DUMAS of Thompson, Conn.; nine grandchildren and stepgrandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. CHRISTENSEN will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Mystic Funeral Home, the Rev. Louise DUMAS, officiating. Graveside services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Forest Home Cemetery, Greenville, with the Rev. Jerry Jones, pastor of the First Congregational Church officiating. GREENVILLE --- Mary Christensen 97, formerly of Ionia, Trufant and Greenville died Sat., Aug. 25,1990 at Westgate Manor, St. Louis, Mi.

She was born May 3^rd 1893 in Chicago the daughter of Christian and Lena [Hansen] Jensen.

Retired from Ionia Manufacturing, she was a member of Settlement Lutheran Church, Gowen, Mi.. The Danish Sisterhood Society, and a lifetime member of the Ionia Women of Moose.

Her husband, Niels Christensen. Whom she married March 15 1910, preceded her in death Nov. 5 1978.

She is survived by a daughter Emma [Pickens] Peacock, Allegan; a son and his wife Hans and Carmen Christensen, Greenville; a sister Emma Strong, Kalamazoo; a brother Hans Jensen, Cedar Springs; seven grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted 11am. Tuesday at Brown Teman Funeral Home, Greenville, by the Rev. Rebecca Ebb-Speese. Burial is in Trufant Cemetery.

GREENVILLE ----- Niels Christensen, 90, 1300 E. Washington, died Sunday at the Christensen’s Nursing Home.

Mr. Christensen was born Aug. 1, 1888, in Denmark, the son of Peter and Christine Christensen. A former resident of Ionia and Trufant he was a member of the Settlement Lutheran Church and the Danish Brotherhood.

Surviving are his wife the former Ellen [Mary] Jensen, whom he married March 15,1910 in GrandRapids; a daughter Emma [Pickens] Peacock of Allegan; a son Hans Christensen, Greenville; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Burial in Trufant Cemetery

Belding - Opal A. CHRISTENSEN, 98, of Alma, formerly of Sheridan, passed away Monday, July 19, 1999, at the Michigan Masonic Home, Alma. Opal was born Sept 7, 1900 in Perrinton, the daughter of Harvey HENDRICKSON and Amelia HELMS-SIMMONS. At the age of 1 1/2 she moved to Sheridan and lived in the Sheridan, Belding and Fenwick areas most of her life. Opal was a homemaker and enjoyed poetry, needlework, cooking and growing plants from seeds. On Sept. 8, 1917, she married LaVerne E. CHRISTENSEN. He preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1982. She also was preceded in death by one son, Arthur S. CHRISTENSEN; two sisters, Esther SNYDER and Leona SIMMONS; two brothers, Roy and Adelbert SIMMONS; one stepsister, Lena SIMMONS; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her stepfather, the Rev. Fredrick SIMMONS. She is survived by her children, Opal and Richard LINEBAUGH of Belding, Ila A. and Jed E. FULKERSON of Midland, Robert W. and Doris CHRISTENSEN of Belding, Sherwin K. and Donna L. CHRISTENSEN of Fenwick; 21 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Hazel SIMMONS. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastors Kenneth Harger and Edward Linebaugh officiating. Interment will be in the Sheridan Cemetery. Mr. CHRISTIANSEN was a lifelong resident of the Stanton area, where he was a farmer. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army, and was a member of VFW Post 5065 of Sheridan. He is survived by his wife, Lois J. He retired from Master Unit Die, Greenville, and was currently employed by Summit Petroleum. She was born in Belding, Dec. 7, 1920, the daughter of Edwin and Faye REED THOMPSON. She retired in 1979 after many years with Michigan Consolidated Gas Co. and was a member of the former Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary of the Lester J. Sitts Post 5065 of Sheridan. She was married in Columbus, Ohio on March 22, 1943, to N. Bryce CHRISTOFFERSEN. She is survived by her husband of 56 years; their children, Pamela SCOFIC of Eaton Rapids, David and Catherine CHRISTOFFERSEN of Mount Eagle, Tenn., Gay and Jack WOOD of Greenville; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Irene and Pat STOWELL of Niceville, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert THOMPSON in July of 1997. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. Crystal - Linda Lee CHRISTOPHERSEN, 42, of Crystal, died Sunday, May 23, 1999, as a result of a house fire. She was born Aug. 20, 1956, in Flint, the daughter of Edgar S. "Ned" and Doris E. CLARK POLLOCK. She attended Crystal Church of God. She married Richard A. CHRISTOPHERSEN on Jan. 15, 1992, in Crystal. Richard also perished in the fire. She is survived by her son, Christopher SIMMONS of Crystal; one stepdaughter, Tracy CHRISTOPHERSEN of Cedar Springs; her father, Edgar "Ned" POLLOCK of Vickeryville; and one uncle, Jack POLLOCK of Broomfield, Colo. She was preceded in death by her mother, an infant son, Michael, and an infant brother, Gary. A memorial service for Richard and Linda CHRISTOPHERSEN will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Crystal Church of God. Memorials may be made to the education for Linda's son, Christopher SIMMONS. Crystal - Richard Allen CHRISTOPHERSEN, 35 of Crystal, died Sunday, May 23, 1999, as a result of a house fire. He was born Sept. 5, 1963, in Greenville, the son of Gilbert and Maxine VANDERMEY CHRISTOPHERSEN. He attended Crystal Church of God and enjoyed singing for the church. He was a tutor with the Montcalm Adult Reading Council and a puppeteer with the Good News Puppeteers. He married Linda Lee POLLOCK on Jan. 15, 1992, in Crystal. Linda also perished in the fire. He is survived by his parents, Gilbert and Maxine CHRISTOPHERSEN of Gowen; one daughter, Tracy CHRISTOPHERSEN of Cedar Springs; one stepson, Christopher SIMMONS of Crystal; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Brian and Bonnie CHRISTOPHERSEN of Gowen, Duane and Vickie CHRISTOPHERSEN of Ionia; maternal grandmother, Mary VANDERMEY of Dallas, Ga.; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Irene CHRISTOPHERSEN, and maternal grandfather, Leonard VANDERMEY. A memorial service for Richard and Linda CHRISTOPHERSEN will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Crystal Church of God. Memorials may be made to the education fund for Richard's daughter, Tracy. Greenville - Charles N. CHURCH, 78, of W. Washington Street, Greenville, passed away early Tuesday morning, Nov. 16, 1999, at United Memorial Hospital, Greenville. The son of Earl and Rena Mae DAMM CHURCH, he was born Dec. 1, 1920, in Detroit. A veteran of World War II, Charles served with the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101 in Greenville. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Greenville. On Dec. 30, 1978, in Greenville, he married the former Margorie BARNWELL. Surviving are his mother, Rena Mae EGYED of Warren; his wife, Marjorie CHURCH of Greenville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Jerry ERDMAN of Grand Blanc, Michelle and Steve SMITH of Westchester, Pa.; one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Eileen CHURCH of Sterling Heights; his stepchildren, John and Judy BARNWELL of Mackinac Island, Roman and Mary Jane BARNWELL of Petoskey, Ed BARNWELL of Concord, N.H., James and Linda BARNWELL of Howell, Francis and Virginia BARNWELL of Portland, Ore., Jane BARNWELL of Palau, South Pacific, Mary and Mike DWYER of Livonia; 22 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The Mass of Christian burial will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. Charles Catholic Church, Greenville, with the Rev. Fred Brucker officiating. Burial will follow in St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Greenville. CIVIL WAR VETERAN PASSES

Cyrus W. CHURCHILL was born at Evansville, N.Y. May 7, 1840 and departed this life at his home in Carson City November 7, 1927, at the age of 87 years and 6 months. Most of his life was spent at home. He enlisted the 17th day of April 1861 in company C of the 35th infantry and served until the 11th day of June 1863. He then enlisted again in company K of the 20th infantry and served until the 30th of July, 1865.

After his return he was united in marriage to Rena ROBINSON, September 8, 1865 and to this union was born William C., Herbert M., Cyrena and Archibald.

He came to Michigan in 1879 and settled at Mt. Pleasant, then he was reunited in marriage to Mrs. Sarah GARDNER July 3, 1888, and to this union were born three children, Beatrice, Clarence and Don who died in infancy.

He leaves to mourn his death two daughters, Beatrice and Cyrena, two sons Clarence and Archibald, two step sons Harley and Lewis and eleven grandchildren and one great grandson.

He was a stone mason by trade and left many endearing monuments to his craftsmanship in that line. His last work was beautifying the City Park which stands as a mark for his life work. He was one of the active members of C.J. Barrett Post, of the G.A.R. and served as its adjutant for many years. There are now only seven survivors of the old soldiers who once numbered over 100 on the roster of the Grand Army post.

The funeral services were held at the home with Rev. C.W. SATTERLEE, pastor of the M.E. church officiating, and his remains laid to rest in the Carson City cemetery.

Carson City - Jacob Ronald CHURCHILL, 16, Carson City, died Wednesday, May 26, 1999. He was born March 7, 1983, in Carson City, the son of Ronald and Tammy GALLAGHER CHURCHILL. He was a freshman at Carson City-Crystal High School. He loved to deer hunt and spend time with his friends. He is survived by his mother, Tammy CHURCHILL of Carson City; one sister, Rachel CHURCHILL of Carson City; grandparents, Maurice and Marilee CHURCHILL of Carson City; grandmother and stepgrandfather, Sylvia Sue and Virgil DAVIS of Riverdale; grandfather and stepgrandmother, Bob and Helen GALLAGHER of Thoreau, N.M.,; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Jay CHURCHILL. Funeral services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Fellowship Hall, Carson City, with the Rev Ray Grienke of the Carson City United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Carson City Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home, Carson City. Memorials may be made to the "Wishes of the Family".

St. Clair Shores - Dr. Paul Clayton CHURCHILL, Ph.D., 58, of Troy, died early Thursday morning, July 15, 1999. He was born Feb. 23, 1941, in Carson City, the son of Clayton "Pat" and Doris I. HATFIELD CHURCHILL. Dr. CHURCHILL graduated from Carson City High School in 1959. He received a bachelor os science degree in 1963 and a Ph.D. in 1969 from the University of Michigan. He did his post-doctoral training at the Institut de Pharmacologie de L'Universite de Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1969-1970. He was a faculty member at University of Michigan from 1970 to 1972. In 1972 he joined Wayne State University School of Medicine and was promoted to professor in 1980. He is survived by a special friend, Monique CHURCHILL; one brother, Gene CHURCHILL of Kent City; three nephews and one niece. Memorial services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Wayne State University School of Medicine, Scott Hall, Room 2268, 540 E. Canfield, Detroit. Mr. CLAFLIN was an original partner in KC Engineering, Saginaw, and owner of Claflin Machine Products, Edmore, for more than 20 years. He was a member of First Church of God, Edmore. He is survived by his wife, Frances I. BORTON CLAFLIN, whom he married Aug. 19, 1939, in Angola, Ind. Edmore - Mildred Esther CLARK, 95, Kentwood, formerly of Florida and Six Lakes, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at Spectrum Health Downtown, Grand Rapids. Mrs. CLARK was born in Wabash, Ind. on June 10, 1903, the daughter of Frank and Della SHAMBAUGH. Mildred and her husband, Lewis, were the owners of the Lewis L. Clark Hardware in Six Lakes from 1926 to 1961. She graduated from Edmore High School in 1920, was a member of Cape Coral United Methodist Church, Six Lakes United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women for more than 70 years. She was a member of the Six Lakes Garden Club. Mrs. CLARK and her husband spent their retirement years in Cape Coral, Fla. and she lived in Kentwood for the past 10 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis; one son, Darrel F. CLARK; two sisters and one brother. Mrs. CLARK is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Stanley RHOADS of Kentwood; one daughter-in-law, Louanna CLARK of Six Lakes; five grandchildren, Marlene ULRICH, Dorene ROOT, LeeAnn FOX, Marty RHOADS, Daniel RHOADS; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was born July 12, 1918, in Lansing, the daughter of Gailey and Genevieve CLARK WILSON. She was married to Cecil V. CLEVELAND on Aug. 2, 1946, in Aberdeen, S.D. He preceded her in death on June 3, 1993. Mrs. CLEVELAND was a resident of Half Moon Lake since 1953, formerly of Lansing. She was a member of the Pearl Lake OES Chapter 9 of Sheridan. She is survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosalie and Norbert RICHTER, Marguerite and Robert ROSTERFOR, all of Barryton, Jenny and Walter CARTER of Lansing; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Marge WILSON of Harrison; and several nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Greenville High School and retired from the banking business in 1971. He worked in Greenville for the former First State Bank and in Concord at Bank of Concord. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a former member of Concord Lions Club and was a member of American Legion Ray I. Booth Post 101, Greenville. He was a friend of Greenville First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean DEGRAW in 1995 and Rhea EHERENMAN in 1998. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Debbie and David WIESEN of Greenville, Richard and Debbie EHERENMAN of Arnold, Md., Robert and Connie EHERENMAN of Christiansburg, Va., Linda and Paul AUSTIN of Chesapeake, Va.; several great-nieces and great-nephews. Grandville - Carl B. COLE, 84, went to be with his Lord Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at Brookcrest Nursing Home, Grandville. Mr. COLE was born March 8, 1915, in Interlochen, the son of F. Bruce and Altha DAVIS COLE. He lived most of his life in Alma and Lakeview. He and his late wife, Norma ELLISON COLE, who died in 1993, were married for 55 years. The had wintered in Light and Life Camp in Lakeland, Fla., for many years. Mr. COLE retired from Consumers Power Co. He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Pat COLE of Waukesha, Wis., Alice and John ECKERT of Six Lakes, Wanda and Ed GRAY of Kalamazoo; one son and daughter-in-law, Albert and Mary Lou COLE of Grandville; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Arlene VAN BROCKLIN, Enid GHERING and Betty ROBBINS, all of Traverse City; two brothers, Cal COLE of Traverse City, Jack COLE of Travares, Fla. He was born Dec. 26, 1924, in Belding, to Charles A. and Marguerite CHRISTIAN COLE. He graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1942. He retired from Gibson's after 25 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Sheridan VFW Post 5065. He was married Dec. 29, 1945, in Greenville, to Florence LOWRY. She survives with their children, Jeanne and Dan NORTH of Orleans, Jody and Don MC GAHAN of Lowell, Chuck and Nancy COLE of Rockford, Rod and Heidi COLE, serving with the U.S. Army in Savannah, Ga.; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Janie Sue, in infancy. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at Oakfield Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Miller officiating. Soldotna, Alaska - Kenneth A. COLEMAN, 68, formerly of Belding, passed away Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, in Soldotna, Alaska. He went to Alaska in 1952 and remained there until his death. He became a truck driver and was very active in the Teamsters Union. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Pearl COLEMAN; two sisters, Othela SHAWLEY, and Lorraine CHICKERING; and one brother, Nathan "Bud" COLEMAN. She was preceded in death by her first husband, George "Eddie" WILHELM, in 1970; her second husband, Enos COMER, in 1982; one sister, Maxine CLARK, in 1993; one brother, Orlo REGAN, in 1998. She is survived by several nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law, Ann REGAN of Belding; one brother-in-law, Franklin CLARK of Rockford. He was born June 18, 1932, in Lake Odessa, the son of William and Maxine DURKEE COMMEE. He was a retired brick contractor and member of the Moose Lodge of Greenville. He married Patricia G. KREEGER on Oct. 4, 1991. She survives along with his children, Steve COMMEE of Greenville, Dee GOODWIN of Martin, Bryan COMMEE of Otsego, Joseph COMMEE of Grand Rapids; his stepchildren, Roxanne F. JOHNSON, Bobbie JOHNSON, both of Greenville, Deb HUMPHREY of Sheridan, Rex C. HUMPHREY, Craig RICHARDS, both of Fenwick, Terri RAYMOND of Ionia; six brothers and four sisters-in-law, Edmond and Betty COMMEE of North Carolina, Clarence and Loretta COMMEE of Lakeview, Roger and Ruth Ann COMMEE of Greenville, Lauren COMMEE, Gordon and Susan COMMEE, Tom HUBBARD, all of Florida; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Marilyn and Bobbie HAUSEY, Marlene and Bob BARBER, Carolyn and Richard JONES, Sally CRAMER, Margene FALES all of Florida; 24 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Art and Pauline KREEGER; three sisters-in-law, Jeannette MITCHELL, Bernice MASON and Kreta LANE, all of Greenville. Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. He is survived by one sister, Dee GOODWIN of Martin; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Bryand and Dixie LAKE of Otsego, Joseph LAKE of Kentwood; Patricia KUIPER of Greenville and her children, Kenneth Pierce, Zachary and Bethany, Lisa and David WILSON, Sarah KUIPER and Emily, all of Rockford, Christopher KUIPER and Heather SMITH of Sand Lake; one niece, Betsy LAKE; two nephews, Benjamin SCHOOLEY and Alex LAKE; aunts, uncles and cousins; his stepmother, Patricia COMMEE of Belding; his stepfather, Karl LAKE; special friend, Gary PETERSEN of Greenville; and his cat "Smokey". Lakeview - Tyler Alton COMPTON, 11, passed away Saturday, March 27, 1999, at his home near Six Lakes. Tyler was born Dec. 26, 1987, in Lansing. He was a fourth-grade student at Lakeview Community Schools and a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Lakeview. Tyler is survived by his parents, Tom and Lisa SOBCZAK of Six Lakes; one sister, Shelley COMPTON, at home in Six Lakes; two stepbrothers, Thomas and Cheryl SOBCZAK, Matthew SOBCZAK, all of Dearborn; one stepsister, Kari SOBCZAK of Dearborn; his grandparents, Leroy and Evelyn MORRISON of Stanton, Raymond and Victoria SOBCZAK of Redford; many aunts and uncles. The Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Frances de Sales Catholic Church, 829 Richardson St., Lakeview, with the Rev. Phong Pham as celebrant. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeview. Visitation will be today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., with rosary being recited at 7 p.m., at the Youngman-McCullough Chapel, Lakeview.

Sheridan - Dorothy L. CONKLIN, 73, of 296 Jefferson St., Fenwick, passed away today, Sept. 15, 1999, at her home. She was born April 7, 1926, in Fenwick, the daughter of James R. WHITE and Francis E. MC AFEE. Mrs. CONKLIN had been a lifelong resident of Fenwick, and she was a member of the VFW Post 5065 Ladies Auxiliary of Sheridan. She was married to Kenneth L. CONKLIN on Dec. 8, 1945, in Fenwick. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Louise DOUGET of Alabama, Karron and Phil BLISS of Fenwick; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Lee and Regina CONKLIN of Greenville, Richard CONKLIN and Kevin CONKLIN, both of Fenwick; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Sherwin CHRISTENSEN of Fenwick; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. CONKLIN, on May 2, 1975; her parents; and two infant sons, Kenneth and Larry CONKLIN. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Stebbins and Simpson Funeral Home, Sheridan, with Pastor Larry Nalett officiating. Interment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery. Rockford - Ruth M. CONNOLLEY, 85, Stanton, formerly of Grand Rapids and Jackson, passed away Tuesday evening, March 23, 1999, at Metron of Greenville. She was born June 20, 1913, in Payne, Ohio, the daughter of Judson and Mable HOLLINGSWORTH OTIS. She graduated from Payne High School and attended Bowling Green University. Mrs. CONNOLLEY was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist, Grand Rapids, a former member of Stanton Women's Club, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolutiion and a Quester--a person involved in the study of the history of antiques. Her husband, Herbert Max CONNOLLEY, preceded her in death on July 15, 1996. Together they owned and operated Connolley Funeral Home in the Stanton area for several years. Mrs. CONNOLLEY is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and John BUSSELL of Stanton; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Julie CONNOLLEY of Clarkston; her grandchildren, Mark and Melissa BUSSELL of Kentwood, Paul and Lisa BUSSELL of Eaton Rapids, Jennifer and Kevin HENGESBACH of Lyons, Chris and Karen CONNOLLEY of Alabama; her great-grandchildren, Caitlin HENGESBACH, Monica BUSSELL, Keegan BUSSELL and Kyra BUSSELL; one brother and sister-in-law, George and Virginia OTIS of California; nieces and nephews. A service celebrating the life of Mrs. Connolley will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church, Stanton, with Larry Olsen as reader and the Rev. David Engler assisting. He was born April 20, 1931, in Hartwick Township, Osceola County, the son of Theodore and Faye FOSTER COOPER. He retired from White Consolidated in 1993. He was a member of VFW Post 5065 in Sheridan, American Legion Post 101 in Greenville and Moose Lodge 1939 in Greenville. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Mr. COOPER attended Calvary Baptist Church, Greenville, and he love to hunt and fish. He was married in 1970 to Betty INGERSOLL, in Greenville. He is survived by his mother, Faye COOPER of Big Rapids; his wife, Betty COOPER of Greenville; four daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Rudy TOVAR of Pontiac, Karolyn and Mike GIBSON of Monroe, Tammy and Terry ROBINETTE of Newport, Kim and Richard KUBIAK of Saugatuck; one son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Nancy LAWRENCE of Greenville; one sister and brother-in-law, Colleen and Don TYSON of LeRoy; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Paul COOPER of Marion, Orville and Jan COOPER of Evart; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Big Rapids - H. Lucile COVEY, 86, Stanwood, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at Altercare of Big Rapids. She was born Sept. 2, 1912, in Ionia, to the late Albert Clair and Meta DELINE GOODWIN. Lucile graduated from Ionia High School. She married Frank COVEY on June 30, 1933, in Belding. He preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1996. Together they made their home in Belding, and later the Stanwood areas until 1947, when they moved permanently to their own farm near Stanwood. Besides helping Frank on the family farm and raising her family, Lucile was employed at Fashion Industries, Big Rapids, and Wolverine World Wide Tannery, Rockford. She is survived by her children, Larry and Elly COVEY of Lutz, Fla., Ben and Elma Jean COVEY of Stanwood, Myrtle STOWITTS of Santa Maria, Calif., Jeanetta HILL of LaMesa, Calif., Anona and David STEEBY of Wayland; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Lucile also was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brockway Wesleyan Church, near Morley, with Pastors Roger Cooper and Marty COVEY officiating. Interment will be in Stanwood Cemetery. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, the Moose Lodge in Florida, and the Gleaners. He was a past Montaella school board member and a board member of the Federal Land Bank. A lifelong farmer, he lived in Florida many years. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jackee in 1966; his father, Oscar; and a great-grandson Alexx CRAWFORD. He is survived by his former wife of many years, Bonna Kay; one son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Karla CRAWFORD of Edmore; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jann and Ken LAPOINTE of Blanchard, Jodi and Terry SEXTON of Alva, Fla.; his mother Cecil of Naples, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Kim, Lori, Jake, Cortney, Dustin, Brandon, Danielle, David, Abbi, Chris, and 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Nellie Mae and Les MACK of Haslett, Joye SUNDERMAN of Naples, Fla. Crook Jewelry in Lakeview for 30 years and a former area piano tcacher, she was bom Nov. 17, 1891, at Maple Rapids to Frank and Mary Elizabeth Groom. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she taught youth choir and Sunday School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd M. Crook, whom she married Aug. 10, 1913. Surviving are a son and his wife, Sheldon and Eileen Crook, Dodge City, Kan.; two grandchildren, Floyd Crook, Guam, Gina Fisher, Wichita, Kan.; six greatgrandchildren. Funeral services arc 2 p.m. Friday at Asbury United Methodist Church, Lakeview, the Rev. Ron Entemann officiating. Burial is in Lakeview Cemetery. No visitation will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, Lakeview. Arrangements were handled by Youngman-McCullough Funeral Chapel, Lakeview.

Edmore - Nathan Elton CROOKS, 21, Stanton, passed away Thursday, April 8, 1999, at his home. He was born July 1, 1977, to Dennis CROOKS and Donna Gail WILLIAMS in Edmore. He was preceded in death by his brother, Damon CROOKS. He is survived by his parents, Dennis CROOKS of Stanton and Donna Gail WILLIAMS of Warner Robbins, Ga.; his grandparents, Wilfred and Thelma CROOKS of Stanton, Rebecca WARD of Macon, Ga.; one stepbrother, Dennis OYLER of Macon, Ga.; two stepsisters, Meshanda and Heather OYLER of Macon, Ga.; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and a special friend, Kelly KEATING. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Stebbins-McCullough Chapel, Edmore. Interment will be in Vinewood Cemetery, Edmore. Friends may call Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Greenville - Oveda Pauline CROWDER, 55, of E. Division, Belding, formerly of Greenville, died suddenly Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, the result of a car-pedestrian accident in Mecosta County. She was born in Manton on Sept. 2, 1943, the daughter of Lawrence and Viola REED WILLET. She was employed at Wright Plastics in Sheridan. She married Basil A. CROWDER in Midland on June 12, 1966. Surviving are her husband, Basil of Belding; their daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Kevin RIGNEY of Greenville; one grandson, K. J. RIGNEY of Greenville; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Adeline and Lawrence BALLMER of Manton, Lorretta CARSON of Owosso, Donna WILLETT of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one brother and sister-in-law, Calvin CROWDER, Melvin and Vivian CROWDER, all of Midland; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hurst Funeral Home Greenville, with the Rev. Harry R. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery, Greenville. Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Edmore - Eugene "Coot" Dewain CUMMINS, 71, Six Lakes, passed away Saturday, June 12, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital, Grand Rapids. He was born Jan. 21, 1928, in Edmore, the son of Frank and Mary WEAVER CUMMINS. He married Phyllis SANDERSON on Nov. 7, 1949, in Greenville. Mr. CUMMINS served in the Army Air Corps. He was an electrician during his working life and belonged to the IBEW Local 876. He was a life member of the Six Lakes VFW and a member of the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene Jr. and Delores, Tim and Pam, all of Greenville; two grandsons, Gene III and Michelle of Grand Rapids, Michael of Alabama; five granddaughters, Dana and Sean FELDE of Coral, Gina, Mindy, Cortney, Kyle, all of Greenville; two great-grandsons, Jacob and Dylan; one great-granddaughter, Ashley; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Kenneth CUMMINS of Pewamo, Charles and Betty of Edmore; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Clara CURTISS of Mt. Pleasant, Rosemary and Bud IMHOFF of Lakeview. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elizabeth and Helen Marie; son Michael Anthony. A funeral mass is 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Edmore. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Six Lakes. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Stebbins-McCullough Chapel, Edmore, where a Rosary will be recited.

Greenville - Ovey Lee CURNUTT, 66, of West Briggs Road, Trufant, passed away Friday evening, Oct. 22, 1999, at his home. The son of Arvis and Molly HOWINGTON CURNUTT, he was born Aug. 17, 1933, in Williamsburg, Ky. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Lee served with the U.S. Army and had worked as a country-western musician most of his life. A devoted father, Lee loved kids and with his wife, also operated a foster home for children. On Aug. 27, 1978, in Grand Rapids, he married the former Patti L. BRISCOE. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Patti L. CURNUTT; his daughters, Theresa VAN VLERAH, Tracey ORR, both of Trufant, Flory and Duane BRYANT of Virginia, Kayla CURNUTT of Trufant; six sons, Arvis CURNUTT, Timothy CURNUTT, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, Tim Alan CURNUTT, Kevin BROWER, Cavid SUMPTER, Aaron CURNUTT, all of Trufant; two sisters, Mary HARNESS of Cincinnati, Ohio, Dixie WEAVER of Covington, Ky.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Brown-Teman Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. Jerry Jones, pastor of First Congregational Church, officiating. Graveside military honors, rendered by the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101 Honor Guard, will follow at Trufant Cemetery. She married Manuel W. CUSACK on Nov. 22, 1941, in Hubbardston. She was a member of the Hubbardston American Legion Auxiliary Post 182 for 53 years and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Hubbardston. She is survived by her mother, Geraldine BOOMER of Hubbardston; three sons and daughters-in-law; Stan and Sharon CUSACK of Muir, Doug and Nancy CUSACK, Chris and Tammy CUSACK, all of Hubbardston; five daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Chuck MALEK, Brenda and Darrell DALTON, all of Hubbardston, Carol and Charles SMITH of Ionia, Ginny and Gale BEARDSLEE, Vivian and Freddie HAWN, all of Carson City; one sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Bob BARNES of Ithaca; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Orin BOOMER, Dennis and Yvonne BOOMER of Hubbardston. She was preceded in death by her father, James BOOMER; her husband, Manuel W. CUSACK; one son, Michael CUSACK; one daughter, Nancy CUSACK; one grandson, Scott CUSACK; and one brother, Bruce BOOMER. Funeral services will be today at noon at St. John the Baptist Church, Hubbardston, with the Revs. Jim CUSACK and William Reitz officiating. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Hubbardston. Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home, Carson City.
